Why should you give “Argonaut and Magneto” a chance? For many, the band’s name may be the most memorable at first glance, but dig deeper than mere window dressing and you’ll find gems like Argonaut And Magneto.
I have a particular perversion for a slightly folksy sound, restrained vocals and clean instrumentation. A combination of these would be this beautifully constructed music, boldly operating with classical elements. The rhythm is monotonous, but not dull, as the poignant vocals add another dimension to the song as a whole. It does not feed the emptiness, as new instruments and sounds are constantly added as time progresses. Then suddenly (a bit strongly put) a dissonant instrumentation tortures the listener, only to evaporate the accumulated tension when it finally quiets down… In fact, the whole song is an unfolding of a ritual, which inspired the whole musical project.
While listening to the music, the shamanic world itself comes to life before us, yet we do not feel as if we are trapped in the past. The vocals and the acoustic guitars have an absolutely fresh, indie atmosphere. Typically, ‘Argonaut And Magneto’ is a track that I can say pleases with its melancholy.

Lyrics:
Trinity
Trinity
You leave me
You leave me angry
The green, green grass
The gray, gray house
The green, green grass
The gray, gray house
The damage done
Ascended the sky
Oh rivers
Rivers
And father’s house
Is full of arrows
He picked the scabs
Now wounds will fester
A state of terror
The green, green grass
The gray, gray house
The green, green grass
The gray, gray house
Oh rivers
Rivers
The gentle breeze
We are at ease
Lying there
You are near
Lying there
You are near
What should you know about “Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat”? Founded by Stef Heeren, this Belgian band has a very special name inspired by a medieval witchcraft ritual, as I hinted earlier. Their music is also characterised by this slightly folky, psychedelic sound, especially in their early albums. If the Sky Falls, We Shall Catch Larks was released in 2005, An Interlude to the Outermost in 2007, The Nebulous Dreams in 2008, Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water in 2010, Weltuntergangsstimmung in 2012 and To Live Vicariously in 2015, and the four-piece band still strives to stay active, although the latest EP was unfortunately only released in 2016. Anyway, it’s still worth to have a look at their songs, because not only the atmosphere of the music, but also the lyrics are worth a listen! Their last two releases have shifted a bit towards a more electronic, gothic rock sound, but not at the expense of quality. Personally, I always appreciate it when a band dares to show something new, to experiment, as Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat is not particularly keen to follow anyone’s footsteps.
